Longboard Races

January 15, February 19 and March 18, 2012, Johnsville, California

A sense of history and an adrenalin rush fuel the Longboard Races, a traditional reenactment of the early 1900’s downhill snow ski competitions that is held at the Johnsville ski hill on Eureka Peak. Held one weekend each in mid-January, February, and March, spectators are treated to a close-up view of skiers in traditional 1900’s garb with leather boots, waxing their skis and toting them uphill on foot, their effort rewarded by an exhilarating run to the base of the hill, each skier’s one wooden ski pole creating a rooster tail of snow.
